Requirements
Sheds under 200 square feet, of only 1 floor, and having no connection to utilities do not require a permit.

They must be placed at least 5 feet from the property line and at least 10 feet from the building.

Even though no permit is required, review by several departments is necessary to ensure the shed complies with all codes. For this review, submit:

• Building Permit Waiver for Fences and Sheds
• Building Permit Addendum for Outside Work
• A copy of the property plat showing the location of the shed. Call out the distance from other buildings and the property line.
• Something showing the design of the shed. If the shed is a commercial product, a copy of the product brochure is sufficient. If the shed will be constructed, a drawing of the shed is necessary.

Review
The city will have the application reviewed by several departments. If everything goes well, someone will contact you and tell you to proceed. If there is a problem with the plan, someone will contact you with alternatives. Either way, there is no fee for this review.
