Camp Health and Safety Information
The Recreation and Parks Department is committed to offering safe and high-quality, and enjoyable camp programs to all participants. The health and safety of all camp participants, staff, and their families remains our paramount goal. The structure and operations of all 2021 camp offerings have been adjusted in an effort to achieve and maintain the highest levels of health and safety while providing a rewarding camp experience. These revised structures and operations ensure compliance with all state and local health and safety guidelines.
Among the health and safety practices adopted for camp programs are enrollment maximums which ensure social distancing, the wearing of masks by all campers and staff when indoors, and thorough cleaning of all camp spaces and equipment. Changes to these practices and policies may occur to ensure both the highest level of safety for all participants and compliance with all mandated guidelines and requirements.

Who doesn't LOVE slime?! It's easy to make and guaranteed FUN! Some are magnetic, some are inspired by famous wizarding books. Others are glittery or glow in the dark. It doesn't matter how we make it, it's the fun that comes in figuring it out. Our slime camp is designed to see just how many ways and kinds of slime we can create. We'll discuss what an activator is and why no slime is complete without it. We'll learn how different ingredients will change the outcome, texture, and use of slime. Slime is awesome, but learning why it works is pretty cool too. Materials are included in the price of the camp.
What do you get when you combine a love of books and a love of cooking? One happy kid! Tiny Chefs presents Books for Cooks, a program combining children's literature with the fun and deliciousness of food. Together, we'll explore contemporary children's classics like Adam Rubin's "Dragons Love Tacos", Mo Willems' "The Duckling Gets a Cookie?!", Jory John and Pete Oswald's "The Coach Potato". After story time, students will learn to make related recipes like Crispy Black Bean Tacos, Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies, and Roasted Sweet Potato Fries.
Get ready to roll up your sleeves and join us in this one-of-a-kind design, build, and fly activity called TinkRdrones. In this camp, students will design, create, program, and learn to fly their very own quadcopter (drone with 4 propellers) from scratch! During the project, students will learn about the science of flight as they design their drones in ways that allow them to achieve compromises between speed, acrobatics, and stability. As the project commences, each student will be given basic components needed to make a drone and will be introduced to concepts on how the parts work together to enable flight. They will be testing and using brushed DC motors, flight-controller boards (with wireless receivers), motor mounts, LEDs, and transmitters. Once drone construction is finished, students will polish their piloting skills as they learn to fly their drones. Along the way, they will develop STEAM skills and apply their reasoning and problem-solving skills to solve for many challenges. And the best part? They get to take it home and show their family and friends what they've created.
Our Cheer and Hip-Hop program focuses on teaching fun cheers and modern hip hop movements with a vivacious urban feel. Our hip hop portion of the camp will focus on rhythm and musicality, how to "find the beat", count music and dance in with a team. Different styles of hip-hop dance will be combined with fun choreography. Our cheer portion of the camp will teach various dance and cheer combinations, basic stunts, and fun choreography. Along with these skills, participants will receive daily take home activities that build teamwork, confidence, and leadership skills. On the last day we will provide a performance to showcase what our participants have learned!
How do detectives and investigators use science to solve a mystery? We will spend this camp understanding forensic science and learning the tricks of the spy trade. We'll investigate fingerprints, spying techniques (surveillance), secret codes, invisible ink, evidence under a black light, and other sneaky science! Materials are included in the price of the camp.
In Chess Camp, campers play and learn about chess with Silver Knights! We've taught tens of thousands of children including national champions, but most students are beginners looking to learn and have fun! Campers are broken up in groups by skill level. Activities include learning the rules, openings, tactics, endgames, studying master games, and playing lots of games against other students. Campers will take breaks for snacks, fresh air, lunch and recess. At the end of the week, campers receive a t-shirt and chess set.
