Past Grant Awardees

In December 2016, the City Council approved $45,000 in funding for arts and cultural grants. An additional $5,000 was funded through a grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts.

Eight proposals were received for Project Grants for a total of over $28,000, of which $20,000 was funded. Four proposals were received for Operational Grants for a total of over $39,000, of which $25,000 was funded.

Recipients include Creative Cauldron, Falls Church Arts, Friends of Cherry Hill, Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation, The Little City CATCH Foundation, Washington Sinfonietta, and Watch Night. Details on their projects are listed below:

  • Creative Cauldron: Two grants including funding and creating original musicals or plays ($2,500 in City funding with a $2,500 match from state funding) and an operational grant for office administration, utilities, and facility overhead ($12,000 in City funding).
  • Falls Church Arts: Two grants including establishing an Arts Academy for youth ages 8 through 18 ($1,000 in City funding with a $1,000 match from state funding) and an operational grant for outfitting a new gallery that is scheduled to open in January ($3,600 in City funding).
  • Friends of Cherry Hill: Two projects including design and printing of a brochure ($1,700 in City funding) and production of a 20 minute video for the public and training docents ($2,000 in City funding).
  • Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation: Two grants including producing a a set of audio tours about the history of the area ($4,000 in City funding) and an operational grant for administrative and general expenses ($3,600 in City funding).
  • The Little City CATCH Foundation: Two grants including digitizing historic materials and making them accessible to the public ($3,300 in City funding) and an operational grant for professional services, storage space, office supplies, and website costs ($6,100 in City funding).
  • Washington Sinfonietta: Free orchestral concert at the Falls Church Episcopal Church; $2,000 in City funding.
  • Watch Night: Funding for entertainment and promotion; $3,500 in City funding with $1,500 in state funding.
