Volunteer & Internship Opportunities

The City of Falls Church offers a number of volunteer opportunities throughout the year, from 1 time park clean-up days to long-term mentoring local students.

Aurora House
Mentors and tutors for residents (girls age 13-17)
Bingo Caller at the Senior Center
Call out the numbers for weekly Wednesday bingo, a popular activity at the Senior Center, located in the Community Center.
Block Captains A Block Captain's primary responsibility is to distribute the Environment Newsletter.
Boards and Commissions City residents are needed to serve on boards and commissions, like the Architectural Advisory Board, the Citizens' Advisory Committee on Transportation, the Environmental Services Council, the Tree Commission, and more.
Cherry Hill Farmhouse
Responsibilities include: Tour guides, host / hostess, special project volunteers, barn volunteers. Call 703-248-5171 or visit the Cherry Hill Farmhouse website for more information.
Community Spring and Fall Clean Ups
Join in the fun to make the city beautiful! In the spring and fall, volunteers work together to clean up the city. City staff provide trash pickers, trash bags, recycling bags, gloves, and reflective vests. Perfect for community groups, church groups, families, or individuals.
Falls Church City Public Schools

Habitat Restoration and Invasive Weed Removal Restore the local ecosystem in city parks, including removal of invasive vegetation and replanting with native species.

Mary Riley Styles Public Library Youth and adult opportunities include: processing materials, repairing books, inventorying the collection, scanning photographs, shelving materials, sorting donations, and assisting with the ongoing library book sale.
Neighborhood Tree Planting Join your neighbors to plant trees around the city.

Recycling Extravaganza Onsite Help Onsite help is needed for the twice-a-year Recycling Extravaganza! Help the Public Works Department sort clothing, inventory bikes, direct traffic, and more.
RISE Mentoring Program
Be a positive role models for teens of the City of Falls Church's Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, as well as the young women currently residing in the Aurora House group home.
