City Owned Roads

With only 2.2 square miles it is sometimes difficult to know where the City's road maintenance jurisdiction ends and Fairfax or Arlington's begins. In some instances, the City owns one side of a road and another jurisdiction owns the other side. Also, within the City are 13 privately-maintained roads, which are not maintained by the City.

A tool citizens can use to determine the City's maintenance jurisdiction is the Street Ownership mapping application. Although the City of Falls Church maintains all public roads within its jurisdiction, the City is required to maintain roads to strict VDOT (Virginia Department of Transportation) standards and is partially reimbursed for this compliance.

If you have questions about a City-owned road you can submit a query to dpw@fallschurchva.gov or through the City's Request Tracker.

If you have questions about a road in either of the surrounding counties, please review the contact information below:

Fairfax County
Very few miles of public roads are maintained by the County. Most are maintained by VDOT or are privately-owned roads. Click here for more information. The County's Transportation Department can be reached at 703-877-2800 (TTY 711) and VDOT can be reached at 1-800-FOR-ROAD (TTY 711) or novainfo@vdot.virginia.gov.

Arlington County
The Water, Sewer, Streets Bureau's customer call center can be reached at 703-228-6570 or des@arlingtonva.us. A list of roads in Arlington County maintained by VDOT can be found here.
