Recycling
Recycling The Department of Environmental Services, Engineering and Construction Division manages recycling programs. Recycling is convenient, it conserves energy and raw materials, and it saves the City more than $100,000 in disposal costs every year!
New Curbside Recycling Program is Easier than Ever! The City of Falls Church has increased the types of materials collected for recycling and has implemented "single-stream" recycling collection as of Sept. 2, 2008. Curbside customers may now place ALL recycling items into the same recycling bin - no separation is necessary.
The City contracts with Bates Trucking to collect recycling materials from 18-gallon curbside bins. Bates Trucking collects recycling materials using a rear-loading compactor truck, instead of the two-stream recycling truck previously used in the City. This will result in more efficient collection, fewer trips to the recycling transfer facility, and most importantly, a user-friendly "one-bin" system for our customers.
Once collected, the City sells curbside recyclable materials to WM Recycle America, LLC, which accepts recyclables in a "single-stream." This means items arrive at the facility mixed together and the facility's highly advanced equipment separates the materials into appropriate recycling streams. This is fast becoming the industry standard for recycling. Partnering with WM Recycle America allows the City to offer our curbside customers the most diverse and extensive recycling program in the region.
When do I place my green bin at curb?
Place recycling at the curb by 7 a.m. on your designated collection day (recycling collection is the same day as trash collection). The holiday collection schedule follows the trash collection schedule (check the online City Calendar for updates).
To request a free green bin or a second bin, e-mail kallan@fallschurchva.gov or call 703-248-5176 (TTY 711). Green bins are provided free to curbside customers but are the property of the City of Falls Church. If you plan to move, please leave a clean bin for the next resident. Residents may use their own bins but they must be clearly marked "RECYCLING! DO NOT REMOVE!"
To report a missed pickup, call 703-248-5176 (TTY 711).
