How do I obtain a permit for a sign for my business and what type of sign am I allowed?
Generally, every type of sign requires a permit issued by the Zoning Division. Some signs, due to their limited function or size, can be approved by the Zoning Administrator with minimal review. A typical business sign will most likely require a Sign Permit Application and review by the Architectural Advisory Board (AAB) during a public hearing. A building permit may also be required. Signs that do not conform to the Code, such as for size, number, or placement, may require a variance. It is especially important that prospective businesses check with the Zoning Division to discuss what signs are allowed at a location before they sign a lease.

Sign regulations are contained in Chapter 38-31 of the City Code. Refer to Section 31.
