Lincoln Park regularly had problematic standing water following rain events. The low, flat terrain, many existing trees, and the many park amenities made this a difficult project. Grading for the rain garden provided an opportunity to direct runoff from the basketball court to the rain garden. The rain garden in Lincoln Park features a a series of pavers, facilitating pedestrian movement and allowing close-up views of the plants and wildlife they attract.
The Lincoln Park Rain Garden was 1 of the 6 recipients of the 2013 Community Appearance Award given by the Community Appearance Alliance of Northern Virginia.
