About

Fort Taylor Park is a small park behind the Eden Center and next to Oakwood Cemetery. The park is well shaded and provides benches to sit on. The historic trail is marked with plaques about Fort Taylor and Taylor's Tavern.

History

On June 22, 1861, aeronaut Thaddeus Lowe inflated his spy balloon at the DC Gasworks and then walked it out to Taylor's Tavern. On June 24-25, Lowe made several aerial ascents, including one to look at the confederate forces stationed near the Fairfax Courthouse.
