Camp Health and Safety Information

The Recreation and Parks Department is committed to offering safe, high-quality, and enjoyable camp programs to all participants. The health and safety of all camp participants, staff, and their families remain our paramount goal. The structure and operations of all 2022 camp offerings have been adjusted in an effort to achieve and maintain the highest levels of health and safety while providing a rewarding camp experience. These revised structures and operations ensure compliance with all state and local health and safety guidelines.

2022/2023 School Holiday & Professional Day Programs

STEM Adventure (Monday, September 26)

Have you ever wondered what the STEM world has to offer? During our STEM Adventures camp, campers will be able to step into the world of science and dabble in the different avenues that this subject has to offer. We will build LEGO robots, venture into the Minecraft world, Scratch coding, and even game design with KODU. Campers will also participate in chemistry creating potions, experimenting with slime, and may even become a spy detective. There is so much to get wrapped up in that the possibilities are endless. We hope to see you in our future STEM Adventures camp with your thinking camp ready!

Chess Camp (Wednesday, October 5th, 2022)

Play and learn chess with Magnus Academy (formerly Silver Knights)! We've taught 100,000+ children of all levels from absolute beginners to national champions! Chess lessons and practice games will be done throughout the day, along with breaks for fresh air. All equipment provided.

Science: Make it or Break It! (Monday, October 24th, 2022)

For this session in science, we will build, create, and investigate! We'll examine good construction techniques for houses, bridges, and towers, and we’ll test how much force it takes to knock them down. We’ll make bouncy balls with superstrong polymers, and we’ll see how high they can go! Test your strength AND your creativity in this hands-on class. Materials are included in the price of the camp

Whimsical Week of Harry Potter (Tuesday/Wednesday, November 7th-8th, 2022)

Join us for a two-day wizardry adventure inspired by the JK Rowling series. Come explore the same subjects that Harry studied at Hogwarts including Astronomy, Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and much more! Other activities include wand making, house sorting, and enjoying a wizarding treat!

MiKiDo Martial Arts Future Champions Program (Tuesday/Wednesday, November 7th-8th, 2022)

A camp that emphasizes fun and safety, while also incorporating the skills developed with martial arts: Fitness, Discipline, Confidence, Body Control, Conflict Resolution, and Teamwork. Learning martial arts basic techniques, practicing them safely on targets, and using fun drills. Part of being comfortable in your body as you age/develop is being able to understand how it works. How you can move it, protect it, and make it stronger. Helping to build good habits is something we pride ourselves on at MiKiDo. Maintaining a strong physical self while also having the mental focus and strength to help one overcome obstacles.

Spy Science! (Wednesday, November 23rd, 2022)

How do detectives and investigators use science to solve a mystery? We will spend this camp understanding forensic science and learning the tricks of the spy trade. We'll investigate fingerprints, spying techniques (surveillance), secret codes, invisible ink, evidence under a black light, and other sneaky science! Materials are included in the price of the camp.

Blast Into the Past (Wednesday, November 23rd, 2022)

Learn about life at Cherry Hill Farmhouse in the mid-19th century through the perspective of the Blasdell’s daughter Ann. Activities include learning about life on the farm and experiencing games and crafts from the time period.

Minecraft: Creative Adventures (December 19th-22nd, 2022)

This program is great for children who have completed Minecraft 101, experienced players, or beginners alike! In Minecraft: Creative Adventures, children will challenge themselves through fulfilling tasks, pushing their building capabilities in the world of Minecraft. This program will help children to enhance their creativity, basic computer skills, and civil engineering ideas while having so much fun within the Minecraft-secured world.

Disney Hip Hop (December 19th-22nd, 2022)

Experience the fun of performing on “tour” with your favorite pop stars in our high-energy Disney dance party hip hop camp. Each day will feature a different movie of the day such as Sing 2, Aladdin, and Encanto with dancers encouraged to dress up to fit the theme. Campers will learn a fun mini dance each day, play games, and complete a themed craft. Camp will conclude with a fun “concert” showcasing their dances from the week on the last day!

LEGO WeDo 2.0: Tech World Robotics (December 27th-30th, 2022)

In this robotics camp, campers will be utilizing the Lego WeDo 2.0 app and instructional files to build and code robotics representing technological advancements in the world today. From formula race cars, service bots, and land rovers to earthquake simulators, spy bots, and aircrafts, there is a huge variety of robots to create and program. Through a focus on experimentation, inference, and perseverance, campers will have a great time bringing their creations to life.

Baroody Basketball Camp (December 27th-30th, 2022)

We are excited to bring back the love of the game for the kids this winter. This camp is designed to help players improve his/her shooting, ball handling, defense, and rebounding while having fun in a non-threatening yet competitive environment. Campers will work together and compete while they have fun playing basketball-related games like Knockout, Dribble War, and Sharks and Minnows. We will emphasize 3-on-3 play and kids will also play age-appropriate full-court games. Games can be modified to encourage distance.

Science: Potions & Explosions! (Monday, January 16th, 2023)

Lets have fun with Chemistry! In this class, we will create magic potions and exciting chemical reactions that will blow your mind. Erupt a volcano, make indoor snow, step inside a giant bubble, grow a giant crystal, blast a rocket into the air, and more. We will learn about the states of matter and how things change with mixtures, solutions, and chemical reactions. Join us to channel your inner Professor Snape!
