Ellison Branch (Lincoln Ave.)

Status

Design Phase (Summer 2021)

Design is scheduled for completion in October 2021, with construction anticipated to begin in March 2022.

About the Project

While the 1100 and 1200 blocks of Lincoln Ave. is in the Ellison Branch watershed, its frequent flooding is a result of the neighborhood not installing a storm drainage system when it was redeveloped. Large homes on the southwest side of the street were built on average lot sizes without adequate on-site stormwater management when they were built in the late 2000s. During substantial storms, water runs down Sycamore St. onto Lincoln Ave., overtopping the curb, and flowing into the yards of these properties, often flooding lower floors of homes that are below street level.

The project will extend storm sewers, regrade areas that restrict overland surge flow, and make curb modifications that will detain and redirect flow away from homes.

In 2020, the Stormwater Task Force identified the Ellison Branch (Lincoln Ave.) as one of six priority projects due to the relative simplicity of project design and construction

Trammel Branch

Funding

The project is estimated to cost $757,000, with the majority of funds coming from the Stormwater Utility Fund.
