As of early Autumn 2023, the project design is 90% complete and it’s currently in the Right-of-Way acquisition phase. Once all lands have been acquired for necessary intersection construction, the project will be advertised for public bidding to acquire a construction contractor.
About the Project
The intersection of South Maple Avenue and Annandale Road was included in the 2005 Comprehensive Plan that studied areas needing improved transportation facilities within the City. A complete redesign of the intersection was suggested, including the conversion of the existing signalized intersection to a round about. The redesigned intersection would include full conversion to a round about (historically referred to as a traffic circle), that has improved cross walks with pedestrian refuge islands, pedestrian signal lighting, upgraded sidewalks and ADA accessible ramps, improved intersection lighting, improved vehicular movement with less energy waste, and traffic calming effects. The roundabout also provides less maintenance over time and will promise less conflicts between vehicles and pedestrians, making it much safer for pedestrians.
