The library provides free Wi-Fi throughout the building for patrons who bring their own laptops or other wireless portable devices.
To access Wi-Fi in the library:
1. Choose the "CityWiFi" network on your device.
2. A user agreement landing page will open.
3. Click the green "connect to the internet" button at the bottom of the screen to accept the terms and access the internet.
The library also provides hardwired computers with Internet access and Microsoft Office 2010 in the Reference, Youth Services, and Circulation areas
Computer Time Limits & Reservations
MRSPL card holders may logon up to three times each day. Guest logons are available for anyone who does not have a card.
Each logon has a session limit: 30 minutes in Youth Services and Circulation areas or 60 minutes in Reference area. However, if no patrons are waiting for a computer, sessions will automatically be extended.
Computers cannot be reserved in advance. Use is first-come, first-serve with a waiting queue when needed.
Use of USB ("thumb") drives, CDs/DVDs, and other external devices (like cameras) is permitted so long as no external software needs to be loaded and the device is accepted by the computer's security software and profiled settings. Two gigabytes USB drives which are sold at the Circulation Desk for $8.
Headphones are only provided on computers in the Youth Services Room. Patrons wishing to listen to audio on library computers or personal electronic devices must bring their own headphones. The library also sells ear bud headphones at the Circulation Desk for $1.
Black and white laser printing is available from all library computers at a cost of $0.15/page.
Color printing is available from all library computers at a cost of $0.50/page.
Print requests sit in a queue until payment is made through a coin box attached to the printer. Unclaimed print jobs are automatically deleted after 2 hours.
Patrons using the library's Wi-Fi are currently not able to print from their wireless devices.
Use of outside paper or other materials (like envelopes, labels, transparencies) is not permitted with library printers.
Internet access in the library, including Wi-Fi, is filtered in accordance with Section 22.1-70.2 and Section 42.1-36.1 of the Code of Virginia.
