City staff periodically updates City Council on CIP projects.
Highlights from the staff report:
- Completed Projects: Four projects have been completed and will be removed from the next CIP Snapshot. N. West and Great Falls St. Intersection Improvements were completed in Spring 2021 and both City of Falls Church and Fairfax County staff and officials celebrated at a June 2021 ribbon-cutting ceremony. Ellison Branch stormwater project was completed in December 2020. Big Chimneys Park was completed in February 2021 and is now open to the public. City Hall Public Space & Safety Improvements construction and punch list are now complete and the City has successfully achieved LEED Silver certification for the building. Progress continues on Mary Riley Styles Library Renovation & Expansion, and the project is expected to finish on time.
- Planning for the Future: The City has pending pre-applications for funding to the Revenue Sharing (RS) and Transportation Alternatives (TA) programs. Those pre-applications are in the screening phase now and status will be known August 16, 2021. If screened in, final project applications will be due October 1, 2021.
Staff presented to the Planning Commission on July 21, 2021 a revised Grant Application Schedule and an updated CIP Delivery Schedule. These schedules reflect the revised project schedules resulting from funding program delays, and capture recently awarded grant applications and upcoming applications.
- Newly Added Projects and Grants: South Washington Bus Stop Expansion and Access to Transit – FY26-27; SmartScale funds awarded ($6.4M). Grant agreement and project schedule pending.
